Best known as a respected journalist with hundreds of published articles to her credit, this passionate conversationalist will drop anything to lift someone's spirits. DeBorah B. Pryor attended San Francisco State University, and majored in
Drama Education and Psychology. Later, her love for childrens' books led her to study at The Institute of Childrens Literature; where she was awarded the schools' degree in "Writing for Children & Teenagers."
DeBorah has spent the majority of her 35-year professional career in the field of communications. From front office receptionist to executive director (and everywhere in-between), her work in the corporate, private and nonprofit sectors at some of the country's most prominent establishments have awarded her abundant experience in human socialization.
As an artist, she has had extensive training in the theatre and was awarded membership in SAG, AFTRA and Actor's Equity in 1982. She honed her beautiful speaking voice by studying with acclaimed voice coach, Judy Davis, who helped the iconic Barbra Streisand
hone her incredible tool. DeBorah also works as a voice-over artist; has been an on-air radio host and was at one time a professional runway model.
DeBorah is proud to have performed her "first big-time interview" with former Beatle, JOHN LENNON; and held the position of personal assistant to music legend SLY STONE. She "cut her teeth" in PR as an assistant in the public relations department of New York's acclaimed METROPOLITAN OPERA COMPANY, where she often "bumped into" legends like singer LEONTYNE PRICE in the cafeteria.
She has worked in advertising sales at the popular Los Angeles radio station formerly known as 92.3 THE BEAT; and her gift for eloquence of the written word makes her a sought-after writer, often approached by professionals in need of an effective letter, speech or other ghostwriting project.
In 2001 DeBorah accompanied the late public relations guru BILL CHERRY, along with MARTIN LUTHER KING, III, hip-hop icon and social activist CHUCK D. and other dignitaries to Dominica, West Indies by invitation of the country's former PRIME MINISTER, the late ROOSIE DOUGLAS. There, the group attended and reported on cultural events and political activities surrounding the country's 100 year anniversary of freedom from French rule.
In 2005 , DeBorah was one of a dozen journalists from around the world chosen to travel to South Africa as a consultant for JAZZ AFRICA HERITAGE - an international music festival that has since blossomed into a successful annual event. In 2006, Pryor was tapped to visit MONTEGO BAY for coverage of the 10th anniversary AIR JAMAICA JAZZ AND BLUES FESTIVAL headlined by EARTH, WIND & FIRE.
Ms. Pryor's works have been seen in local, national and international publications including The Electronic Urban Report (EUR), The Los Angeles Sentinel, The South Pasadena Review, The Long Beach Times, Turning Point Magazine, The African American Public Relations Collective (AAPRC), Out Front South Magazine and numerous online sites. The former West Coast editor at (BRE) Black Radio Exclusive magazine - a leading music trade publication- DeBorah has interviewed some of the biggest names in the entertainment industry including DENZEL WASHINGTON, HALLE BERRY, WHITNEY HOUSTON, BEYONCE, and THE ISLEY BROTHERS.
Singer PATTI LaBELLE grabbed her hand at a party and unabashedly introduced her around the room as "one of the best writers" she'd ever read. While the legendary NATALIE COLE mused, "We could've talked all day," following a telephone interview. Pryor has also provided coverage at many of the entertainment industry award shows including the GRAMMY AWARDS, SOUL TRAIN MUSIC AWARDS, LADY OF SOUL AWARDS, NAACP IMAGE AWARDS, NAACP THEATRE AWARDS, and also attended the MICHAEL JACKSON: 30TH ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION. In January 2009, DeBorah braved the freezing Washington, D. C. temperatures to witness the Inauguration of the first African American President, Barack Obama.
An enterprising entreprenuer, DeBorah, who is featured in the impressive Who's Who in Black Los Angeles, is a distributor for the fastest-growing network marketing business in the world: MONA VIE and is a co-founder and principal of THE BIO SHOP, a public relations firm formed to provide career assistance to professionals by developing an array of materials including biographies and press releases.
She is a proud mother and grandmother to AZJA and DESTIN respectively. Azja, one of her mother's PR "clients", appeared on NBC's "Access Hollywood" following the passing of Michael Jackson. She is the owner of Lilly & Company - an emerging line of distinct, high-end greeting cards. DESTIN, who is the only son of actor-comedian CHRIS TUCKER, is a world-traveler; active in gaming, sports and music.
