THE ART OF COMMUNICATION

Here’s what the workshop covers:

What is public speaking, really? You don’t have to be standing in front of a podium addressing a crowd of people. You can be participating in a job interview with one other person; or attempting to influence someone to buy your product. You may need to defend your position or stance on a critical issue. This class allows you to develop the tools necessary to conquer the day-to-day communication issues so that addressing “the crowd” will no longer be a problem.

Mindset: Everything starts here! Is yours that of a “contributor” or “victim”? Do you sabotage your goals unintentionally? Do you position yourself for success or failure? Learn to identify your true intent and make changes where necessary.

Affect:  Are you aware of how you innately make people feel…without even opening your mouth? Learn how your affect impacts your professional and personal relationships. Fear/Anxiety/Stage Fright

Stage Fright: Another name for fear. It happens to everyone. It is our response to it that matters. Recognize it. Understand it. Learn how to control it so it works for you instead of against you!

Dealing with the unpredictable: Whether it’s a disagreement with your boss or a sudden request for your appearance in front of a thousand strangers, it can be an uncomfortable situation. Learn how and when to apply your “game face” and turn it into a valuable experience.

Real-Life Scenarios: An opportunity to participate in and get feedback on some of the daily challenges we face, in the supportive environment of a workshop.

Handling Questions from the “Audience”: Let’s face it, nobody knows the answer to every question asked. How do we get through this reality, in public, without feeling defeated?

The Power of the Voice: In person our beautiful smile may be able to alter any situation, but on the phone all we have is our voice. Learn about “voice characteristics” and their affect on the outcome of our many situations.

The Job Interview: The Interview starts when the door is opened, not when you open your mouth. Learn how to effectively approach an interview and maintain a sense of control throughout the process.

Changing Jobs / Careers: Whether you are just returning to the job market, considering a career-change, or aiming to enter the world of entrepreneurship, wondering where to begin can be overwhelming. But it doesn’t have to be. Learn the essential first steps that will help make the process a valuable and enjoyable one.

Developing Literature that Gets Attention: Public speaking is written documentation too. And some correspondence we produce may not represent us well. There are cover letters to compose for potential job interviews, emails to our colleagues and other professional correspondence. Learn how to craft letters that will get their attention at the onset, host effective content throughout, and get you a response.

Q & A discussions throughout the class
